This summer, I had a whim to create small handmade panels/frames for a new series I’ve been thinking about doing. This series is all about fish. Yes, fish.
At home, I am surrounded by all things aquatic. My husband has 6 aquariums (our home is aptly named “the zoo”), housing both salt and fresh water fish. Admittedly I knew the basics about fish, had goldfish growing up and learned the brevity of life early on by winning them via “toss the ball in the fishbowl” at our local church carnival.
But, meeting my husband really opened my eyes to the beauty and diversity in this vast waterous kingdom. It’s actually quite surprising I haven’t painted more fish, given the constant source of inspiration around me. I really have no reason as to why I hadn’t…but this summer..I changed that. Cue, new mini oil painting series “Fabulous Fishies”.
I’ve been learning a lot while painting these small little portraits, and hope through this I become a more efficient painter. I’m a fiddler by nature in my work and sometimes spend hours longer than I probably need to in order to “fine tune” the piece I’m working on. Hopefully, I come out of that shell soon :)
Here is one of my latest pieces in the series, which I will be adding to my shop soon.
Take good care and thank you for stopping by!
